Melissa Gray (MSc, Registered Psychologist)

Melissa is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a member of the Psychologists Association of Alberta.
She completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology at Saint Mary's University in Halifax Nova Scotia and her graduate studies at the University of Calgary, receiving a Master’s of Science degree in Counselling Psychology.
Melissa also is a group facilitator, writer, community volunteer, and mother to an amazing five-year-old boy.

Since 2008, Melissa has supported her clients to acquire the tools they need to achieve their desired dreams and hopes, goals, and to thrive during times of difficulty, change, and transition. Her counselling experience spans individual personal and workplace concerns, couples, teens, and families. She has worked in sectors such as community counselling, public health, second stage shelter, higher education, and now private practice.

Melissa believes every person and couple has a unique set of discoverable personal strengths that can be applied to overcome obstacles and create flourishing lives. Melissa says: "It’s an honor to walk alongside people I work with who have the courage to do the work necessary to achieve life changes. Witnessing others change always inspires me and I have tangible strategies as well as hope to offer you for your journey."

She has a collaborative approach to counselling and has been described as warm, affirming, highly empathetic, and compassionate. Melissa respecting her client's lived experience and views their knowledge and wisdom as vital to the therapy process.

In counselling, she likes to use an integrated model of therapy to support holistic wellness. This includes talk therapy and skill building methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the Science of Well-Being, and Strengths-based therapies (including Solution-Focused and Narrative therapy approaches), as well as trauma informed breathwork, mindfulness, and mind-body approaches (including emotional freedom technique EFT or “tapping”). Melissa is trained to provide EMDR, an effective method to support moving away from disturbing thoughts and memories. She is happy to provide more information at your request.

In the first session together, she will explain her approach to counselling and welcome you to share any healing methods you personally find helpful.

Her particular calling is to support new mothers (as well as fathers and all parents) and she has specialized knowledge to understand how to assist when this transition doesn’t go as expected and mental health surprises are part of new parenthood.
